Margaret's Background: Pediatrician Mom-to-Be

CHILDHOOD

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY born the oldest of three children to Italian immigrant parents.  My father, a school principal, and my mother, a Ph.D. linguist, passed along their high moral integrity tempered with lots of love.  I attended private schools through High School and overcame my shyness by excelling on the Speech Team and starring in a couple of plays.  I then attended New York University where I majored in Psychobiology.

MEDICAL SCHOOL

I studied very hard and got accepted into medical school where I decided to become a pediatrician because of my lifelong love of children. After my residency, I practiced in NY and then in FL.  During those 10 years, I became ill from overwork.  Knowing that I wasn't getting better with conventional treatment, I sought out an acupuncturist on the advice of a massage therapist. This experience changed my health and my life.

A CHANGE OF PLAN

I started studying and learning about holistic medicine and eventually joined a Wellness Center in Fairfax, VA in March 2000.  I absolutely love what I am doing and how my practice has thrived.  I enjoy helping people get to the root causes of their illness and to see them transform into empowered, healthy people.  I specialize in Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, hormone imbalances, digestive issues and children's issues such as ADD/ADHD/autism, allergies and asthma.  My health had taken a turn for the worse when I first came to VA, but figured out that I was poisoned by chemicals leaking into my office which caused me to gain weight and suffer from a great deal of pain.  Turning my health around, I now give hope to others who are suffering with these issues.  As my mother always said, "Everything you learn comes in handy."

MY LOVES

Every day I learn how to bring more joy into my life.  Just looking at a child puts a smile on my face!  I enjoy dancing and singing everything from oldies music to church music and Broadway tunes.  Ed and I frequently attend Broadway shows when we visit New York.  I absolutely love to read and get a thrill when I see families hanging out at Borders or at the public library on a quiet Saturday or Sunday reading together.  A tom-boy in my youth, I now enjoy gentle yoga, bouncing on my mimi-trampoline, and walking.

MY SPIRITUAL PATH

I consider myself a deeply spiritual Christian and I strive to bring God's love and peacefulness into every moment of my life.  I know that God and my angels are near me and guiding me always.  In December 2007, I asked God to show me a sign that we should adopt.  The very next morning while driving to work, I saw a license plate on another car that read RM 4 1 MO (Room for One More).  I am very confident that there is a baby out there for us to love and cherish.

OUR LIFE TOGETHER

My life with Ed is wonderful.  My three criteria for a husband were: has a good sense of humor, loves children, and is considerate.  I lucked out!  After 17½ years of marriage, we still get along great and we still miss each other when we are apart.  I could never have asked for a more supportive, loving spouse.  Ed is emotionally stable, grounded, and makes me laugh every day.  I am positive that Ed will make as terrific a father as he does a spouse.  Everyone I know thinks Ed is a great guy.  Whenever one of us sees a baby or small child, we nudge the other so that we can both smile at the child's beauty, sweetness, and innocence.  We always assumed that we would have children, but it just never happened.  Rather than spending money on infertility testing, we thought it made more sense to adopt.  We got this idea from my second cousin who adopted 2 children.  We are very excited to share our love with a child!
